The staff said that the wooden center offers 3 gyms for basketball, volleyball and badminton, and gymnastics. They are available to every students.
If you want to do some strength and conditioning, you can use the weight training equipment, stretching mats, various cardio equipment including stationary bicycles, stairclimbers, ellipticals, treadmills, rowing machines, upperbody ergometer, and outdoor sports conditioning area. FITWELL staff is always available for assistance.

If you just want to have some fun, you can go to the Games Lounge. There are tables and chairs and a large screen TV in it, and you can play cards, board games, and studying.
If you are a climb lover, the Rock Wall can meet all of your requirement. The Rock Wall is designed for all levels of climbers, with dozens of indoor climbs and 15 climbing ropes.
Of course there are Men's and women's locker rooms with showers and saunas, and lockers available for rental. It’s really convenient.

History
The John Wooden Center was built in 1978, after 75% of the students voted in a referendum for the construction of an indoor sports area. Finally, in 1983, the constructions were completed and the doors of the John Wooden Center opened to the public. The costs for the construction of the John Wooden Center were approximately about 9.6 million dollars.  The name was given in honor to Mr. John Robert Wooden, who was the coach of the UCLA basketball team for several years. During his coaching period, the “Brunis” achieved their greatest success in the NCAA league.
Throughout the years, the John Wooden Center expanded: a Men’s Gymnasium, a weight room and racquetball courts were built. Moreover the Center always tried to improve his quality and tried to offer the best service to the students. For example a self-entry system that is linked to the UCLA Bruin card, which gives an easy access to the visitor of the gym.
Today the Recreation Center is one of the most popular meeting point for the UCLA students.
The services in the gym

The duty of the staff
The staff here are almost students in UCLA, they work here so they can pay their tuitions. The student staff said that they choose to work in the wooden center instead of other place in the campus is because they like to talk to people, meet different people here. Another reason is they like to work out and usually go to the gym everyday so that they choose here.
The most important duty of the staff is to keep everyone who work out there be safe, including checking whether they have the safe and proper devices.
The average working hour is 10 to 12 hours a week, while the limited is 20 hours. But in summer vacation, some people will work more hours than usual.
The staff said they love their job in the wooden center, and always be glad to welcome every students to work out in the gym.
